'In the absence of the invasive: Can we finally look at the Japanese knotweed as a green future companion?’

A lecture by Alaa Abu Asad (artist researcher and Fellow at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie’s Lectoraat Art & Spatial Praxis) during the programme of Kunstfort x TXT: Cross Stitch.

In his extensive research on invasive species of the Japanese knotweed plant, Alaa has been following debates on the plant and its (undesirable) sisters, varying from problem making, eradication solutions, utilisation and, most importantly, potential symbiosis. During the talk, Alaa will unfold a wide range of his (physical) research material, tell anecdotes, share parts of court cases, and more.
