Artists from each of the Climate Imaginaries at Sea Artistic Research Studios will be presenting work as part of the Warming Up Culture Route during the annual We Are Warming Up Festival at Tolhuistuin in Amsterdam from the 30th of October to the 5th of November.
'Queer as the Ocean' by Carlo de Gaetano
Each year the festival presents a cultural program dedicated entirely to the climate crisis including music, art, talks, workshops, panels and theatre. Artistic researcher Carlo De Gaetano of the Visual Methodologies Collective will be presenting his new work ‘Queer as the Ocean’ developed as part of the Interspecies Imaginaries studio. Müge Yilmaz of the Material Inquiry studio will present her work S.A.L.T and Dorothy Blokland of the Global South Perspectives studio will lead the workshop ‘Power of Water’.

Climate Imaginaries at Sea speculates possible futures in and around water through various artistic and participatory research practices. Three collaborating research groups bring the project forward: Art & Spatial Praxis at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy (GRA), the Lectorate of the Academy of Theatre and Dance at the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK) and the Visual Methodologies Collective at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS). The research groups work in partnership with ARIAS, a platform for artistic research in Amsterdam, and a network of partners that includes Tolhuistuin, the Institute for Sound & Vision and CoECI – Centre of Expertise for Creative Innovation.

Climate Imaginaries at Sea is part of the Art Route NWA-project ‘Bit by bit, or not at all’ within the scheme ‘Small Projects’ which is financed by the Dutch Research Council (NWO). This project was made possible with the support of Centre of Expertise for Creative Innovation CoECI (www.coeci.nl).
