Green Screens 2022
This session will focus on the relationship between conceptions of Nature, notions of 'The Natural' and their relationships to far-right thought. We will explore the phenomenon of 'Eco-Fascism' and environmental and ecological crises are exploited by reactionary organisations for their own political projects.
Soylent Green (1973) directed by Richard Fleischer, 97 Mins
WHAT IS THE SECRET OF SOYLENT GREEN?
In an overpopulated futuristic Earth, a New York police detective finds himself marked for murder by government agents when he gets too close to a bizarre state secret involving the origins of a revolutionary and needed new foodstuff.
For those that wish to participate, the screening will be followed by an open discussion of the film. We will also discuss it in relation to the assigned (optional) reading:
