The Research Cafe is a space to support research projects led by students at Sandberg Instituut. Each session revolves around a specific theme and text related to Artificial Intelligence that we use as a starting point for discussions on the topic. The idea behind the research cafe is to discuss different approaches and understandings to the session’s theme. It is meant as a moment to share “unfinished thinking”. That is, a process of exploring and expanding the possibilities of open-ended research.
The session opens with a short introduction to the topic by Flavia Dzodan followed by a group discussion of the text. Students are actively encouraged to share their opinions, views and perspectives not only on the specific text but also on the way the topic of each session intersects with their own research. The group sessions should serve as a springboard where students share and discuss with each other their research methodologies and questions.

On each session, students are invited to present their own research projects for group feedback and discussion. This research project does not need to be related to the topic of the session but is open to all disciplines and all methodologies. The project can be at any stage of development (from a rough idea presented to brainstorm its possibilities to a fully finished project). When interested in a research presentation slot please mention via sign-up form. There are two slots per sessions. Through the group discussion we aim to encourage an environment where students are open to new ways of approaching research and can learn from each other practices.
