Rietveld Sandberg Research
Research Fellowships at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie & Sandberg Instituut
The Research Fellowship Project is a yearly scheme launched cooperatively by both the Rietveld Academie and the Sandberg Instituut with the aim to support individual research projects and make topics more visible. The plan is to better connect students, heads, and tutors to research and to build a solid and specific research culture that can slowly be incorporated into the school curriculum at both a bachelor and a master level.
This publication presents the results of the third cycle of Fellows associated with this project and brings the work near- er to the stated goal of creating a more rigorous research culture. The projects are a convincing collection of positions— provocations, questions, insights, speculations, and analysis. All the work shows a clear consideration for ways of turning anecdotes into data, alongside a consistent questioning of the logic behind systems and structures. The results reveal a valuable and artistic way of thinking, and importantly, all consider the social consequences of that thinking.
I’m not a scientist, but I make systems through which to extract and collect opinions, which are performative. At the end, I have a data pool, which can be interpreted by others, and then it becomes a sculpture.
