Philosophy seminars 2026-27
Philosophy seminars 2026-27
This academic year, the Critical Inquiry research group continues its programme of seminars in philosophy and critical thought open to the public. Through close readings of texts from a variety of traditions, the seminars examine theoretical practices that experiment with forms of critique, speculation and intervention that challenge established paradigms.
This year’s seminar series, convened by Tom Vandeputte, will address different philosophical engagements with the concept and idea of the planetary. Over the course of the year, we will read texts by a range of different thinkers and writers, passing through the work of Walter Benjamin, Georges Bataille, Frantz Fanon, Martin Heidegger, Ursula K. Le Guin and Günther Anders.
The first seminar, which takes place on Friday, November 6, focuses on Walter Benjamin’s "To the Planetarium" (1928): a dense, two-page text that reflects on ancient cosmic experience and an emerging “planetary scale” in the wake of a world war and erupting revolutionary movements.
Date and time: November 6, 14.00-16.30
Location: Fred. Roeskestraat 98, Critical Studies studios
Registration: to sign up and receive the readings, please email tom.vandeputte@sandberg.nl
